Appraisals · Collection intelligence
Valuation with context.
A credible appraisal explains what was examined, why the assignment exists, which market applies, and how the conclusion was reached. House of Eight combines object-level research with the wider story of the collection.

Purpose defines the appraisal.
Every assignment begins with intended use, intended users, the effective date, the property to be appraised, and the relevant market. Those decisions determine the scope of work and the form of the final report.
We appraise individual works, groups of works, complete collections, archives, and other cultural holdings. When an assignment requires an outside specialist, conservator, authenticator, or legal or tax professional, we coordinate with the appropriate party while keeping each role clearly defined.
USPAP-aligned reporting, applied to the assignment.
House of Eight appraisal reports are developed in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and informed by International Society of Appraisers methodology, as applicable to the assignment.
Scope, intended use, methodology, assumptions, limiting conditions, relevant markets, supporting evidence, and the final opinion of value are communicated clearly.

The number is only the conclusion.
A complete report may include property descriptions, artist and object research, provenance, exhibition and publication history, condition information, photographs, comparable market evidence, market analysis, methodology, and certification.
For larger collections and archives, we also consider concentration, narrative strength, documentation quality, intellectual property, historical importance, and the relationship between individual objects and the whole.
Begin with the purpose and the property.
Tell us what is being appraised, why the appraisal is needed, the relevant date, and the location of the property. We will respond with the appropriate scope and documentation request.
